Chinook Children’s 4th of July Parade
July 2 | 9:45 am – 12:00 pm
Tons of good, old-fashioned fun!
Decorate your “wheels”, pets, and selves, kids! Show your community spirit!
Parade registration begins at 9:45 am
Parade begins at 10:15 am.
Marchers will proceed up Highway 101 from the Event Center to the fireworks tent at the port parking lot and back.
Food For YOU! Marchers, friends and neighbors will be ready for hot dogs, chips and lemonade at the Event Center when the parade ends.
Food for the Food Bank. Parade participants and observers are invited to bring an item of shelf-stable food to help supply the Chinook Food Bank. Collection barrels will be available at the Event Center. It would be especially meaningful to receive donations of children’s favorite foods thereby involving our youngest citizens in the food collection effort.
Let the celebration begin.
A wonderful piece of Chinook parade history is highlighted in a book by Sydney Stevens, “Legendary Locals of
the Long Beach Peninsula”. She tells the story of the turn-of-the-century Chinook Liberty Wagon, a highly
decorated wagon pulled by equally fancied-up stallions. Children climbed on board along the way waving American
flags to onlookers until the wagon reached the 4th of July picnic site at the old school. Could it be we might someday
re-enact that amazing July 4th tradition?
